Gunzilla Games x Avalanche

We present an update from our portfolio company, Gunzilla and one of our partners, Avalanche.

Gunzilla Games, a renowned triple-A video game studio, has announced a partnership for its highly anticipated game, Battle Royale 2.0: Off The Grid (OTG) with Avalanche. The company has enlisted the talents of noted filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, best known for directing “District 9,” as their Chief Visionary Officer. Blomkamp has built the new game’s world “from the ground up,” while “Altered Carbon” novelist and screenwriter Richard K. Morgan has teamed up with Olivier Henriot, a veteran from hit game franchises Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, to develop the game’s narrative.

Gunzilla’s Off The Grid (OTG) is set for release in 2023, with Blomkamp also directing a cinematic mini-series inspired by the game’s world. Set on the fictional Teardrop Island, the game follows a thrilling story of three powerful corporations fighting for resources using high-tech soldiers and advanced weaponry.

As a free-to-play game, OTG aims to compete with market leaders such as Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone. The game will be released on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, catering to traditional gamers while also offering a unique component for web3 gamers through its Avalanche partnership.

Together their aim is to shake up the Battle Royale genre by emphasizing storytelling and digital ownership, allowing players to influence both gameplay and narrative through their in-game decisions. Their platform, GUNZ, is one of the first player-friendly digital asset economies in a triple-A game, aiming to empower players by granting them complete ownership over their in-game digital items. Vlad Korolov, CEO of Gunzilla Games, said in a statement:

“By building GUNZ, we aim to revolutionize the gaming landscape with a transparent in-game asset management system by providing a number of market-standard features for game developers who are creating their economy on blockchain.”

Gunzilla prides itself on its commitment to transparency, security, and player ownership over in-game assets, which is among the many reasons that Faculty Entertainment invested in the company. Their many strengths include being backed by strong creative talent, boasting best in class applications of digital assets technology, demonstrating high production value with games well-suited for mass market, and a team that is hyper-focused on user experience.
